Take a ride out on our Big Red Bike today!

Before you venture out with us… here are some answers to some of your questions!

Who can use the service?

Anyone by reason of age, infirmity, disability or social isolation are no longer able to get out on a bike and enjoy the simple pleasure of cycling in fresh air out in the countryside in the company of like minded people.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge.  We love donations though!

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured! Contact us for more details if you want to find out more.

Do we need to bring anything?

The most important piece of equipment for you is warm clothing, a hat and depending on the time of year, warm boots and gloves. We have some storage space on the bike so if you have too much clothing for the weather then we can stow it for you.

Also bring some money with you as we are likely to stop somewhere for a snack or even for lunch.

How many can come on the trip?

Our Trishaw carries only two passengers and there is no room for any more. We cannot allow passengers to carry children on their laps. If you have friends or relatives who would like to accompany you on their own bikes then they are more than welcome to join the ride. We do ask that any cyclists who come with us follow all instructions of the pilot or the outrider (scout), they must wear a cycle helmet and they are responsible for their own safety.

Where do you pick us up from?

We can pick you up from your home or can arrange to meet at an agreed location.  Please discuss with us what suits you when you book.

What if I book and can’t make it?

We would appreciate as much notice as possible.  If you are cancelling less than two hours before the ride then please call us as soon as you can.

Can I book for a friend of family member?

You are welcome to book a friend or relative provided that we have contact details for that person as well as for yourself, and information of their disabilities or personal difficulties that might impact upon their ability to enjoy the ride.

Can you help us pick something up along the journey?

No sorry our aim is to take you on a lovely sociable ride, not collect prescriptions and do any shopping. Sorry!

What is the route?

We have surveyed a number of safe routes around Lichfield based on our extensive local knowledge and from the city out to all the local villages where there are cafes and pubs at which we can stop for refreshments and meals. We can discuss those with you when we arrange your ride, so that the pilot and the outrider are briefed in advance.

Can we change the route?

Our routes have been carefully mapped out and checked for safety so we would appreciate it if you could stick to them.  We are always up for new ideas though!

What if it rains?

It’s not as much fun in the rain however the bike has a canopy and we also carry a waterproof blanket.  If the rain is really heavy we might have to cancel but will call you.  If it is light showers it is unlikely that we will cancel on you.

Are you a charity?

Yes. We are the Lichfield Trishaw Project, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) number 1183442 registered with the Charity Commission on the 15th May 2019.

How can I help? Can I be a volunteer too?

We welcome new volunteers anytime and there are lots of none cycling jobs too - get in touch.

What happens if we break down?

In the unlikely circumstances that we breakdown or have an accident we plan to get our passengers home immediately by taxi and inform their emergency contact.

Could you attend an event we are holding?

Depending on the event we are happy to try and come along, please reach out to us to discuss further.

We look forward to you riding with us!
